My English teacher said that for the word ALLUSION, this sentence "strangely sets it in the wrong direction":
My date had gone so strangely already that I would not have been surprised if our carriage turned into a pumpkin when the clock struck midnight.
How is this wrong? How can I fix it?

When people think of Cinderella, they remember that she had a good date. Saying your date had gone "strangely" departs from that.
What you're trying to do by using allusion is get the reader to associate the context of the other story with yours.
So what you're doing here is saying that your date was not good and then bringing up an example of a perfect date. If you are going to allude to Cinderella, your date must be like Cinderella's.
So saying something like, "My date had been so magical that I would not have been surprised if our carriage turned into a pumpkin when the clock struck midnight," is more correct.
